Mike joined the Foundation in August 2016 and is responsible for grants related to housing, homelessness, community and economic development, as well as volunteerism, advocacy and civic engagement. Mike brings with him an extensive background in public policy and corporate social responsibility, with a focus on finance and affordable housing.
Before joining the philanthropic field, Mike spent 10 years on Capitol Hill, working on housing- and finance-related issues. Mike left the Hill to join Freddie Mac, where he created and managed a state government relations program and, later, directed the community relations program. In that capacity, he oversaw the largest corporate philanthropy program in the Washington region, funding a wide range of local and national nonprofits and directing the corporation’s employee volunteer program. Over the years Mike has volunteered with many organizations in a number of capacities, ranging from mentoring and tutoring, to serving at homeless shelters, and has been a member of various nonprofit boards.
